Day 1: San Pedro de Atacama – Green Lagoon – Red Lagoon – Siloli Desert – San Juan

You will be picked up in your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama at 7:30 am and transported to the Bolivian border to pass immigration control, this journey will be done in a mini bus, then we will pick you up again, but this time at the Bolivian side to start our amazing journey in a 4WD vehicle. As we traverse the Bolivian terrain, our first encounter will be with the Rocks of Dali. Named after the famed Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dali, these wind-sculptured formations will captivate you with their otherworldly shapes and defy the conventional laws of gravity.

Next, we’ll venture into the Siloli Desert, a realm of bizarre rock formations sculpted by the relentless wind. Witness gravity-defying structures that challenge the imagination, creating an almost mystical atmosphere. Our journey continues through a series of stunning lagoons, each adorned with unique and vivid colors. One of the highlights is Laguna Colorada, where the deep red hues are a result of flagellate algae Dunaliellasalina and a high ocher level. Fed by hot springs and wetland runoff, this lake is not only a visual spectacle but also a haven for birds, nestled on an island of borax, rock, and excrement.

Surrounded by volcanoes, the desert provides a dramatic backdrop that will leave you in awe. The play of light on ancient lava flows can create illusions of water cascading down their slopes, adding to the surreal beauty of the landscape. Standing amidst this vast expanse, you’ll feel the true magnitude of nature, making you realize how small we are in comparison. Our day concludes at Hotel Mallku Cueva.

Day 2: Uyuni Salt Flats – Incahuasi Island

This day promises to be an extraordinary exploration of the world’s largest salt deposit, Uyuni, standing majestically at an altitude of 3600 meters above sea level. Known as the world’s largest salt flat, Uyuni spans an immense surface area of nearly 12,000 square kilometers, creating a breathtaking spectacle for every visitor. This region is not only visually stunning but also holds the title of the richest deposit of lithium in the world, adding another layer of significance to its natural wonders.

Our first destination is the mesmerizing “Isla Incahuasi,” a unique island rising from the vast expanse of the salt flat. Despite its inhospitable appearance, Incahuasi is home to a remarkable array of fauna, including viscachas (long-tailed Andean rabbits), colibris (green hummingbirds feeding off giant cacti), lizards, and resilient insects. Towering cacti, some reaching heights of seven or eight meters, further enhance the island’s surreal beauty.

As the day unfolds, we’ll traverse the endless salt flats, providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime experience of the vast, shimmering expanse beneath the clear sky. Our journey will lead us to the Luna Salada Hotel, where the unique architecture and panoramic views of the salt flats will provide the perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening.
